Default lowering front end

Hi All'
Which reversed eye spring length will give a lower stance29 or 30" all stock
car ,put a 30" in my pickup which seems to be lower than the 29" I put in my Phaeton.
Cheers

DJ, this is a trick question because the #1 Spring Leaf (A-5314) is the same for the Pick-up and the Phaeton. The print calls for for that spring to be 32.875" - 33" from ℄ to ℄ of the hanger eyes. To reverse that spring, the spring leaf is pressed the opposite way of the arch unto that ℄ measurement is achieved. Naturally if the number is longer than 33", the vehicle is going to appear to sit lower.

Shackles hang "down" which leads one to see that a "longer" spring allows the shackles to point more at 6 o'clock. Otherwise they're more like 3:30/8:30.

That is up to the point where the shackles have "turned" away from the centerline of the car - but by then you're hitting the post for the spring perch.

Probably more properly a question for the HAMB network.

But once you see the geometry (and the limitation) in ones mind's eye...

Posies front spring is 1001-L
rear spring is 29-31R

both lower about 2.5"

Original Ford A axle should have a 31-1/2" spring eye centerline.

29", 30", & 31" springs are made for aftermarket axles with narrower spring perch centers.

I've put 31" springs on stock width '28-'36 axles; not sure how a 30" would work but I imagine a 29" spring would be stretched out pretty flat.

I would believe the ride quality would drop with the spring spread out of it's design parameters.

If you want a low good riding spring on a stock axle, a Posies 1001L would be a good choice.

I used a '32-'36 front axle to get a 1" drop. then a Posies reversed eye spring for another 2-2.5". I hate the look of dropped axles.

Your car may actually sit higher with a new spring than it does with a worn out old spring.

Chris,
It looks like you used the stock style steering arms as opposed to the "drop axle" style. Did you have any problems? I am looking at the same axle for my 1930 Tudor. Thanks.

I neglected to heat and bend the arms before I had them powder coated. The fix was easy. I used Post War Ford Pickup tie rod ends. They gave the tie rod the rise needed to clear the wishbones. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speed...nds,50152.html

Looking closer at the picture, I see how the tie rod is raised. The tie rod end rise is hidden behind the axle. Looking at the front end, it looks like you changed the tie rod too.
Your parts combo is a very clean setup.
Thanks in advance.
