Good info. I've been a little careless with mine so is a good wake up call. Read through the article but there is no mention of how to inspect them in order to be safe. How does one dispose of these cylinders safely? I think I have just thrown them in the trash before but they were empty.

I loosen the valve cores before discarding empty cylinders. Some scrap metal dealers will take them with the core loosened or removed.

This is really not nice. I use these every day. I have had them separate just as shown. Fortunately never while lit. Unfortunately there are equal dangers to using any of the other transport type cylinders as well. Gas cylinders are just plain dangerous, all of them. I feel bad for these poor guys.

That is a most worthwhile caution! Makes me shiver. I just checked the two I have and found one to be bent at the neck of the cylinder. Whew

I just bought one of the MAPP torches at Lowes this week! I never even thought about the tank breaking loose from the neck on this or propane. The tank that came with mine is a short stubby thing that contains more gas. I don't know if this is safer of more dangerous. I will certainly exercise the maximum amount of caution handling this potential bomb.
