Default 15" Wheels on a late 47 Woodie ?

I have a very late 47 Woodie delivered in 48 That has 15" wheels. The previous owner claims that the original owner said that the wheels were optional and had never been replaced. Has anybody else seen this...??? Thanks....39 Jack

Merc & Lincoln had 15" wheels so, most likely you could have the dealer install them in place of the 16" wheels. Out of curiosity, what size tires are on the 15" wheels?

was the spare tire also 15 and if so the covers would also have to be larger.

Johnny Thanks: Yes the spare tire cover is larger. I didn't think about that and that would seem to verify the story....39Jack

As the same year Mercurys came standard with 15", having the Dealer change the the Ford wheels over from 16" to 15" sounds completely plausible. Dare I say it, but on the other side of town, you could specify optional 15" wheels on your 1948 Chevy, the ones with 6 studs. Most chevs ca,e with the standard 16" wheels. Chevrolet also offered a Full Wheel Cover for these 15" Accessory Wheels at a time when most cars came with the Dog Dish Hubcaps.

You might consider going with a 7.10x15, that was the size tire that Wagons and Convertibles came equipped with (at least in '52 to '54).
