Fire Engine Generator?
I'm trying to identify a generator that I purchased in a pile of other stuff from a guy who restored fire and rescue vehicles. I tried a search but only came up with Leece Neville generators.
This is a Delco-Remy that has the 2-1/2" intake manifold mount but the mount bolt lug slot is 13/16" wide instead of the standard 5/8". It has two insulated terminals and one ground lug. the case is 5" wide and 7-1/8" long. It has a double belt pulley for a fan mount and is attached with a castle nut with key. The numbers on the plate are not noted as part or serial but read 1105858 and 1130. Any help would be much appreciated!!! Lonnie Last edited by Binx; 10-31-2014 at 10:47 AM. |

Re: Fire Engine Generator?
Many police vehicles were equipped with high output generators to feed the radios and other auxilliary equipment long before alternators arrived. If they had double pulleys, they were fire engine equipment.

Re: Fire Engine Generator?
Can you post pictures
It could be made up out of different make parts, or for another application, the high output generators in the 30s were made by Auto-Lite from what I have found, Delco was a general motors company, not likely a Ford supplyer |

Re: Fire Engine Generator?
Ford was not necessarily prejudiced against Delco stuff...a fair number of early V8's had Deco speedometers.

Leece Neville even made alternators back in the flathead era but they looked more like a generator and had a seperate diode plate assembly that mounted on the back. |

Re: Fire Engine Generator?
The buses used those genarators along with the twin pulley pumps. there is an even bigger generator witch uses a different factory high rise intake manifold, the generator is about 6" wide.

Here is a photo of a Ford V8 Bus inlet manifold I obtained from a firm that originally ran Ford V8 buses several years ago.
