Default need to sell a V8-60

Cleaning out the shed after Dad died and need to get rid of his V8-60. Dad helped build several midget cars in the 50's and acquired this engine to someday build one of his own and that day never came. It has been stored for all this time and I would like to know how to find the year and possibly what it might be worth. There is also a transmission but I'm not sure if it fits this motor. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to realize that several pictures would go a long way toward helping with ID, including the trans. DD

The 60HP engines are typically worth more as a display item than for actual use in a vehicle. I can shed a bit of personal experience... I sold one three years ago. It was a good running engine, complete from top to bottom and professionally detailed. ALL of the correct pieces (carb. fuel pump, dizzy, etc.) were on , rebuilt and again, running. Transmission was a good one, detailed, etc. This entire thing was sold for $2200 which i was VERY pleased to receive. It ended up as a display piece in the guys garage.

If you have just the engine of unknown condition, if you can fetch $300 or so, take it and run.

Another request for pictures of the engine and transmission. Some pictures of the engine should also include a couple shots of the sides w/o the exhaust manifolds attached and pictures of the transmission including one with the top off to show the gears. Also, another request for your location which most folks put in their avatar.

Not all 60hp engines are created equal. The 1937-39 is best suited for static display. I prefer the 1937 with "tin" sides actually stainless sides welded to the block with the most beautiful machine weld you will ever see of stainless to cast iron, considering 1937 technology. The 1940 is the most desirable for midget racing. The oil fill pipe on 1937 to 1939 comes off the left(drivers side) of the bell housing, the 1940 oil fill pipe is in the intake manifold. (intake manifolds are easily changed). Since your father raced midgets there is a chance you might have a 1940 60 hp.
