Re: Let's see your 1937 Ford
I don't know that the '37 coupes or convertibles were ever considered " ugly ducklings" back in the day.
The '37 frontal styling was influenced by the Lincoln Zephyrs and was ( is ) quite pleasing to the eye. The problem lay with the sedans, especially the flatbacks which seemed a little stubby. I think Bob Gregorie and Edsel Ford would have preferred to lengthen the sedan bodies a little ( or even the rear fenders like they did with the '38 standard sedans ) to at least give the impression of a longer car. However Henry had the final say. Only my opinion you understand. |

Not to worry, I’ll never try to restore that car. I’m going on 81 and bought the car 5-1/2 years ago because it is near clone (only difference color) of my first car which I bought for $175 in 1950. I got my driver’s license with that car. The car has 61.5k miles on it and cruises great at 65 and I’m sure it would go lot faster. I have all of the receipts for the car including the one for the original license and registration along with the original license plates. All of the gauges work except for the trip odometer and the electric clock. The engine is quiet and runs strong but burns lots of oil. Robert |

Re: Let's see your 1937 Ford
This beautiful 1937 Ford belongs to my Uncle. It is a 2014 Rouge Award winner. From what I understand, it is rare to see one like this, and I am so proud of my Uncle who did such an outstanding job of restoring it! |

Friend, a "Rouge Award" winning car is an unrestored original. Try posting again; would love to see your Uncle's car. |

Re: Let's see your 1937 Ford
Sorry the photo didn't make it, I'm trying to post it again ...this time as an attachment. I'm very new to the forum, so please excuse me and my lack of knowledge about the difference between restored and unrestored original re the Rouge Award. I'm still learning and I'm still very proud of my uncle!
Hope this time you can see the photo. |

Re: Let's see your 1937 Ford
Thanks, Mike. The 37 is a completely stock survivor with original paint and interior. Still has mechanical brakes and the engine hasn't been apart. Best guess is it has about 70k miles. New Coker period correct tires, distributor was done by Bubba's, a rebuilt generator, new brakes, fluids, hoses and belts, etc. It is tempting to consider a drop front axle, some cool wheels and tires, hydraulic brakes but I am going to leave it as it is for the time being.
Update 12/17/15: I thought I should edit this description now that I have had the car for several months. The paint is about 70% original as the rear fenders, decklid, a portion of the hood have been redone albeit a long time ago. The engine had a main bearing-like clunk so when I pulled the motor to replace the clutch I took off the pan and heads. Found one piston had been replaced, not the rod, and the cylinder is sleeved. All the rods and main caps still had safety wires and the crank/rod journals are standard as well as the pistons. Currently rebuilding. Last edited by Mark's 37; 12-17-2015 at 10:23 PM. |
