Default 37 clutch replacement

I have my radiator at The Brass Works for restoration so it is time to pull the engine to check the bearings, new trans mounts, etc. I have every reason to think the clutch is original to the car. I want to get the flywheel surfaced and replace the clutch assembly. I have read the posts about Ft. Wayne Clutch and much about the lousy offshore clutch kits being sold elsewhere. Are the clutch kits from Ft. Wayne made in the USA and of the best quality? Is there any other outfit on the West Coast/Bay Area that offers the same? Is having mine rebuilt the best option? Thanks.

Thanks Lawrie, do I purchase one of their clutch kits or send them mine to be rebuilt?

Mark, There is no reason to purchase a "new" clutch package as you are risking the chance to possibly get junk. Your best bet is to have your pressure plate and disk rebuilt by a real clutch rebuilder company. This assuming you have a good ole ford clutch setup to send in. Fort Wayne is excellent but here on the west coast is a terrific place also. These guys have been around forever and know exactly what they are doing. The name is Soundland Clutch and they are in National City (San Diego area). They do all my clutch work and they certainly know the old cars. They have the correct linings for the disk , not some cheap junk stuff. Look them up and /or give them a call 619-417-2105
Just my opinion

I guess we are spoilt for choice down here in New Zealand.
Just about every town still has at least one workshop that does competent brake and clutch rebuilds and repairs.
Still plenty of machine and engine reconditioning shops as well.
Bigger cities have several of each.
Like you guys were back in the 50's.

I went Fort Wayne and that's all the way from here in Western Australia.. You will get a "kit" from them, I didn't use the small [Chinese] spigot bearing and I already had the throwout bearing.. but hey you get a clutch alignment tool!
