1931 Victoria Tail Lights
HELP I am trying to figure out the correct placement of the tail light brackets on the rear fenders. When I put them in the original holes they are not facing straight back they are facing in and down. Or are there different tail light brackets for the Victoria.

Re: 1931 Victoria Tail Lights
if you have original stands they should look correct in the original holes in the fender. but if you have reproduction stands good luck. because most of them out there are not made correctly . I have had to cut shape and weld them to fit.

Re: 1931 Victoria Tail Lights
Thanks John, I thought that may be the problem as they are reproductions. I guess I will have to rework them.

Re: 1931 Victoria Tail Lights
The Victoria uses the standard Model A tail light bracket on the left.
The right side bracket is a reproduction that Ford never made. I caution you, do not transfer the tail light bracket mounting hole pattern from the left rear fender to the right rear fender. The reason is that the right side reproduction tail light bracket has a geometry that is not the opposite of the OEM left side bracket. Eyeball the right side tail light into position so that it is equal & opposite of the OEM left side light. Then mark and drill the bracket holes into the right rear fender.

The repros are made of thinner metal from what I recall. I looked at them for my car. I took and original and cut a wedge out of the bottom and made up an opposite tilt and welded it. Technically it is a bit shorter. I have a pair of Albrect coupe rear fenders. The right had the holes already. I made up a template and tried transfering the position to the right. It did not work out at all. What I did was realize the brackets needed to have their screw holes inline and the face parallel. They are kind of self aligning. I have a long straight edge (cheap from Lowes 8' long). I used that to level the screw holes across after mounting the right bracket. Then made the faces in line with each other. I used vice grips to hole the left one while adjusting. Then I marked the holes and drilled. Seemed to do the job right cause everything lined up. |

Re: 1931 Victoria Tail Lights
Thanks for your reply Bob. Both brackets I have are repos. I will have to rework both brackets so that the tail lights point in the proper direction and look identical . It may take a bit work but I am sure I can do it.
