In search of “Wayward Wind”
Hey fellas I recently acquired this 1939 Mercury grille set. As you can see at some point in its life the owner hand painted the name “Wayward Wind” on the lower lip.
I thought about this for a while and imagined that a former owner must’ve been proud of his or her Merc and affectionately named it. That got me to wondering if it would be possible to track down someone that knows this car or happens to remember seeing it. Who knows what the story is behind it and I’d love to find out. Sort of like the proverbial “message in a bottle” story. So here it is. I’m throwing this out here and other places to see, if by chance, the Wayward Wind exists still in someone’s past memories. Thanks for checking this out and any comments or information are greatly appreciated of course. |

Re: In search of “Wayward Wind”
It's the title of an old country song. Look it up.

Re: In search of “Wayward Wind”
Sounds like an intro song to an old western movie. I love the old westerns.

Re: In search of “Wayward Wind”
I thought the original '39 Merc grille was diecast and not stamped tin like the one in the photo.

Re: In search of “Wayward Wind”
I think Lawson bought the original album. I always thought of the song as 'country'. I recall it well.

She was not the only one to record it. Tex Ritter was another. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGJhYQnUUUg

Re: In search of “Wayward Wind”
I can’t tell how much I appreciate y’all chiming in. It’s most likely the original or one of the early owners of this Merc was listening to this song on the radio and it inspired him or her to name their chariot Wayward Wind.
Can’t thank you guys enough! |

Re: In search of “Wayward Wind”
If this is a popularity contest, Gogi Grant was the chart buster for this song.
