Accessory oil can ?
Some years back someone gave me this oval Ford script oil can. It came with the bracket and fits directly to the bulkhead (firewall).
Anyone know if this was an official Ford accessory or an aftermarket product? |

I just mounted one in my '33 engine compartment....sorry the image was turned sideways!!

In USA I don't think so, but I know my Citroen has a place for a can of oil ---but for a different shape can ---welded into the inner fender on a Traction, the D model it fit inside the spare with the jack stand

That oil Ford oil can is English I believe. Sure it was an accessory for Model Y.

I believe only the "T"s had an oil can accessory as part of their tool kit........ I hand made my bracket from an old gate hinge and a straight metal back plate with two threaded bolts going thru the firewall.
Tiger maybe yours belonged to a Fordson tractor or later Ford car, sure is a big can ?!?!?!

An original item with Ford script on is not considered "aftermarket" on this side of the pond. Aftermarket here refers to items not made by Ford or made by third parties, but not released by Ford as "authorized". Your oil can was likely not manufactured by Ford, but was released by Ford as "authorized", likely as a service part or accessory sold by Ford to its dealers.

David.....later today I will take a photograph of the bracket. It was "made to fit" the bulkhead.

Here's the bracket. Interestingly, the mounting holes in the bracket line up EXACTLY with vacant holes in the bulkhead; as if it were designed for the job ??

Judging from your photo, the upper of the two holes does not exist on original '32 firewalls on this side of the pond and the lower of the two in LHD applications is where the cable for early starter motor switches (mounted on top of the motor) is routed (and plugged when the change to a foot-operated starter switch was made). On North American-sourced RHD chassis, that lower hole was unused on both fours and V8s.
The first photo below is a North American LHD firewall and the second is also North American in origin, but from a RHD four-cylinder vehicle. |

David; when we see warm weather and my back is up to it, I'll remove the bracket and take a photo of the mounting holes in the bulkhead......another as yet unsolved mystery ?
