battery drain on 55 with 12v conversion

My 55 fairlane with 302 and 12v conversion runs great and holds a charge until running at night with headlights. Car doesn't shut down and lights don't dim but after reaching destination and shutting down battery is dead . any help is greatly appreciated , thank you
