Just put a set on a '55 Ford for a customer. He picked them up somewhere, but they appeared aftermarket by the hardware. There is a center, L shaped bracket that grabs the wheel lip top center, pulled tight by a bolt from the bottom of the skirt. Front and rear there are bracket type clamps that grab the wheel lip with a bolt and nut that fit through a slotted hole in the skirt. As you tighten those bolts, the clamps tighten on the wheel lip, holding the skirt in place.

streetdreams, thanks for the reply. unless i'm really missunderstanding, which is very possible, mine dont sound like yours. heres a pic of the brackets. they look they would go behind the lip but they won't fit back there.

The two brackets on the ends with the slots should bolt to the cars wheel lip front and rear. There should be a pin or another bracket bolted to the inside of your skirts to index into the two brackets. Not quite sure how the center bracket in the picture works. A shot of the inside of your skirts would be helpful.

An inside picture of the fender skirt will be helpful.

The brackets in the picture are factory brackets for a 55 or 56.If the skirts you have original equipment they have pins on the front and rear that fit into these brackets.

The bracket on the right is secured to the front of the arch lip and the one on the left is fixed to the rear bottom edge.
You need to position the fender skirts and mark on the fender lip where the fixing rods on the fender skirts sit. You may find the brackets need to be ground out a little to let the rod ft in the bracket. I also had to grind the front edge of the brackets to allow them to sit up against the inner lip in the fender arch. You drill holes through the fender lip to screw the brackets in. I had to trim the back lip of my fender skirts as they were fouling the fender lip. Really a time consuming trial and error job. Worth it when done.

got them on, rick55 nailed it. had to grind a little on the brackets and pound a little on the rods on the skirt to adjust everything. a guy at a local cruise in last night let me take one off on his 55 crown vic and look. that was tons of help. thanks everyone
