Re: Mallory dual point on an 8ba
Cool my goal is to find a fiftys or sixtys model. I am going to pay more for one. But I want to stay 6 volt. Dual points sound like a headache. But if it was easy everyone would run a smallblock chevy dump there flatheads have electronic fuel injection and electronic ignition. So I like the old style setup it looks cooler too. And I love my cranky old flathead. Its kinda like being married to my Girl some days are good some bad sickness and health thing. Does bubba sell these restored with the mods

Re: Mallory dual point on an 8ba
I have a dual point mallory which I changed to electronic ignition, set the timing onTDC, runs great, I fought it until I put on electronic ignition. The car has dual 94 and Aluminum Heads.

I send my Chevy Mallory distributors to Jim 'Bubba' Lindner, after I convert them to 8ba, for setup and could not be happier....fast service reliable and reasonable. Mallorys are cool and all that but it's impossible to beat a converted Chevy window distributor with or without the vac can for use on an 8ba. Infinately tunable, points and a condenser, inexpensive, it'll wind the engine to over 5 grand. Absolutely happy with 6 or 12 volts....2x2's, 3x2's, 4 barrel no sweat. Only my opinion. Charlie ny |

Re: Mallory dual point on an 8ba
I put a new Mallory dual point on my 8BA about 2000 miles ago. No noticeable improvement over the loadamatic, but maybe it needs re-curving. The condensor didn't last long.

I've done a few of the New Mallorys, I concur with John. Advance way to slow, and goes to far. For a Flathead shorten the total advance and speed up the rate, lots. This will wake it up, all else being good. On a stock engine the loadamatic works surprisingly well in good fetal. Go away from stock single carb, and it needs to be changed. As above "runs great" is a relative statement. I've worked on lots of stuff that "run great" always like the look on their face when it actually runs like it's ment to. Martin. |
