Yes, it's very common and is solved in various ways depending on the car, engine and fan.

Different year inake manifolds mounted the generator higher or lower. What do you have?

My 36 aluminum intake was 3 1/2 inches from bottom to center of generator stud. I bought a later cast iron intake that was 2 1/4. This was to make an alternator to fit.

I don,t know,Iam new with flat heads I bought the truck like that an the guy that sold it to me knew very little about the truck .He was just selling.Iam set up to send pictures Thank,s for your help.Rickmass
