speedways reverse eye rear spring
i called speedways tech line before ordering there posies reverse eye rear spring for my 1941 coupe because in there catolog it states that 41/48 perch centers are 45" but i measured mine and im getting 46 1/2 perch centers also my shackles are angled out at bottom the guy at speedway says my shackles should be angled in at the bottom,he says i have the wrong spring and buy my perch mesurments i have an early rear possibly a 36 ford,i think he may be wrong ,if someone out there has a stock 41 ford passenger car that could possibly measure the rear perches centers that would help me figure out if i have a stock rear or otherwise...again it must be a 41 ford..thanks ..al

Re: speedways reverse eye rear spring
Info I have from Hot Rod Magazine Feb. '68 shows this:
Perches C to C '20-'27 48" '28-'31 49" '32-'34 47 1/2" '35-'40 48" '41 46 1/2" '42-'48 47" Rear Spring C to C 45" 46" 43 1/2" 44" 41 1/2" 43" BTW, he's right about the angle on those shackles. There is no way they are working as intended; your spring is too long if you do measure your perches at 46 1/2" Last edited by Fordors; 04-29-2011 at 05:37 PM. |

Re: speedways reverse eye rear spring
Your rear end looks like a 41 with those pointed spears pointing down which was 41 only.Your spring is most likely a 42-48

Re: speedways reverse eye rear spring
A few months ago I purchased a posie rear spring for a '41 rear end from Speedway. To the centers of the perch hole (axel housing) it was 46 1/2 inch. The spring fits perfect and the shackles are on a 45 deg. with the spring side pointing to the center of car. After '41 up to '48 the springs were longer and the perch holes to accommodate. From the picture it looks like that's a later spring in a '41 rear.

Order direct from Posie to get the correct spring.

Re: speedways reverse eye rear spring
Al, I looked at my invoice and the spring I ordered from Speedway was #580-3536 and the invoice says it's for a 35-36 Ford rear. I don't know if it's a misprint or that year is the same as 41 but I do remember measuring between the center of the holes it was 46 1/2 and the spring they sent fits fine. The car is a '34 with 41 rear and it's still going through the build, it's on blocks and I think it will lower it just right.
