59 352/4 carb
Is the four barrel carb vacuum or manual to open when pressing the pedal? Stock Galaxie 59. Thanks

Vacuum diaphragm on the back of the carb.

Re: 59 352/4 carb
Thanks for the reply. I just bought this car and it isn't delivered yet. Back in 59 I bought a new galaxie convert with a 332 in it. I changed the carb and manifold to a 4 barrel. It also was vacuum operated and it was a dog, say off the line. So I suppose this will be the same.

Re: 59 352/4 carb
The car was heavy, engine small and a ridicules high rear end gears with an automatic, 2.65 or some thing like that. Had a 332 4v and cruise o matic. Slow in town agree.

You want to see a real bog, take that combo and put with a manual secondary on it. Full throttle from a stop gets nothing. Learned that driving a tri power on my first y block. This assumes the secondary vacuum unit (or air valve on other designs) is working properly.

As mentioned in another post, rear axle ratio is a major factor. Plus, if your '59 Galaxie was an automatic it normally started out in 2nd gear unless you manually shifted it. |

Re: 59 352/4 carb
Short/long story about tri-powers. 73 F100, 360/granny 4/3.55 gave a good solid 12MPG under any driving condition. Put a Galaxie tri-power and headers on the engine, jetted the carbs down a bunch and it ran like a champ. The progressive linkage was perfect. Interestingly the set up raised the MPG to 15 as long as I kept my foot off the long pedal!

Re: 59 352/4 carb
I have no idea what highway mileage is on my car now. Heck it was 12MPG at 70MPH before, so I figured why not. LOL
