I've seen that picture of a red hot exhaust manifold before and each time, I think is it pretty clear why they sag at the back like they do. There won't be much strength i it at those temperatures.
I have posted before that I take the weight of the exhaust off the manifold by installing a spring at the rear of the engine mount and connect it to the exhaust right in front of the muffler. I use an ordinary hose clip to do that.

I read several posts a few years ago on the Model T Ford Club of America Forum that mention that a red hot exhaust manifold like that can possibly indicate a "too lean" condition and warn of manifold warping.

Anyone else heard of that?

Just drive it more. This year I hardly ran two tanks of gas through it. Starting a new postilion at work has me busy, stressed and a bit depressed. I think about joining a club, but I'm on the fence as my schedules don't line up with theirs. We'll see.

I think that all of these suggestions are good ideas. I suppose that it depends on how roadworthy your car is

> Make your Model "A" roadworthy by March 1st;
I recently inherited my "A" from my grandfather. It's been in the family since '37, and was well-kept by my great-grandfather into the '80s when he passed. After that it's been mostly patched together by local mechanics. It sat for a few years but it runs, drives, and stops okay. Still have to go through the whole car before I trust it.

> Attend at least 6 local Model "A" club events driving your Model "A";
I recently signed up for my local MAFCA club, and I plan on attending all the meetings I can.

> Drive your Model "A" 1000 or more miles in 2024;
Once I replace those 20 year old Garfield's I might

> Help another club member with their Model "A"
Since I've only had my "A" for a year I'm not sure how much I can help but I'm always willing to learn!

I like that idea. Do you use like a brake spring or ?? I imagine it must be a strong spring? Thanks.

The spring doesn't have to be very strong. I rummage through my box of springs and if I come up dry, then I go to the local hardware store and select something I think will do the job. I feel how much weight it has to support beforehand. I figure that even if I don't get it 100% right, anything will help.
It was just last week I had the exhaust off one of the cars that I had done this on and the spring held the exhaust up and it required only a gentle downward pressure to connect it to the manifold again. It made reconnection easy.

I am planning to install hydraulic brakes on my 1928 Tudor. Any suggestions on a source for conversion kits?

I plan on getting more of my Model "A" restored to it's original equipment. I have ordered the 1928-1929 headlights, (Mine had 30-31's) and get new tires or tyres installed.

Drive it more when I can (Michigan law for my plate states no 'Routine' trips, heck, I am test driving her so I need to get it on the road.

Wish everyone a happy 2024 and get out there with your "A" and let the world know they still run and drive!

Dave

Need to build a v8 for my roadster. Threw a rod bearing in my diamond B block about 2.5 months ago and its scrap at this point (needs new main insert bearings). I’ve priced it out and the Flathead build is going to cost WAY less. Sad but the banger is out, the 8 goes in.

Rebuild my trans

Optional: Need to buy and install a new or old top on my irons.

Car has to be running by end of January so that I can enjoy it with my daughters asap.

Trying to buy a stock 30/31 coupe asap also - love that original styling!!!. My roadster gets lonely by itself in the garage.

Yes! Fix the original mechanical brakes! No leaky hoses or wheel cylinders!
I had hydraulic brakes in my car when I bought it and came VERYclose to being in an accident. Tore it all out, rebuilt everything including NEW rods and have excellent brakes.

Thumbs up Re: Model "A" Goals For 2024

Well I live in Florida, so my "A" is always road ready. However, she sure does need a new set of tires! Hopefully this year she'll get some.

And, a new climate controlled garage, shop, and model railroad building.

Bert's has some hydraulic brake parts. CW Moss has some also (they have both Model A and 1932-1948 early Ford parts). C&G Early Ford Parts also has 1932 - 1948 parts. There are probably other early v8 parts places that carry parts for hydraulic brakes.
