Radiator Mounting Holes
The front cross member of a frame has slotted holes to mount the radiator. Is this normal for a certain year or such? If it matters, the slot runs parallel to the cross member.

Re: Radiator Mounting Holes
As best I can tell from this picture it is a 30-31 cross member, but I never knew anything about slotted holes on it or any other.

Re: Radiator Mounting Holes
I think I remember something about round holes being 1928-29 and slotted being 30-31. Also 28-29 holes sit lower than the rest of the cross member where 30-31 are flat.

Re: Radiator Mounting Holes
I looked at four frames I have, April '30, Feb '31, Mar '31, and Mar '32, they all have
the slotted holes. Bob |

Re: Radiator Mounting Holes
here is how you can make it up for it LOL. How do '28-'29 restorers, particularly open car owners, possibly adjust hood gaps without slotted holes? Do they hog out the holes?

Interesting...I wonder just when the slotted holes came into effect on the front crossmember. Any early 30's out there? Even with the early 30 crossmember on the late 29's...were the holes slotted on those crossmembers. Pluck |

Re: Radiator Mounting Holes
Correct, the slotted holes were for later years. I just had this conversation with my local Model A bone yard after buying a front crossmember from So-Cal. Incidentally, despite what their counter guy says, their front crossmember does not work in a stock, unboxed frame even though they have the 3-hole mounting flanges.
