Default Not Early V/8 but help with engine....

I will post this in the other section also but I am thinking that some of you may know the answer to this one.

My friend has a 56 Ford 2 plus ton truck on her farm. At first look I thought it had a 292 or 312 for an engine with a 2bb carburetor. Trouble is the carburetor is bad and I went to put another 2 barrel Ford on it to get it running and the base did not match. I had a few of these in the 80's but don't remember if the 2bb carburetors were different than the one's used say on a 302 or 352. Thoughts?

thanks guys.

After 56 the two bbl carb had a four bolt pattern, not the three bolt. Is that your difference?

might have a small 4 bolt base carb similar to Merc motors. one I had was a 2 barrel but looked like a tea pot 4 barrel. the motor was not a y block . it was a Lincoln truck engine. but you said the truck is a 56 so it could have the early 332 but its not like the early FE 332-352 motor. its a truck engine.

you might be able to put a small base Rochester 2GC carb on it but the linkage with be backwards.

without picture all that's a guess. knowing which motor it is will help. summit sold an adapter that you could put a later large base motorcraft 2 barrel on early small 4 bolt pattern manifolds.

Thanks guys, here is a photo showing the bases of the 2 carburetors. The one in the foreground is is off of a 352, second one is off of the y block in the 56. Both 2bb. Valve covers look like the ones used on a 292/312, has a crossover pipe also.

That small base 2 barrel is like the flathead 4 bolt mercury carbs. I have a couple of those truck carburetors but are in poor shape. I would try making a small base 2GC rochester off early small block chevys work if all your trying to do is make it run. They are a cheap common carburetor.

Or change the Intake manifold to the 57 and later y block 2 barrel then your 352 carb will work.

There are adapters out there pretty cheap to go from the small 4 bolt for teacups,
Mercury, 337's to standard 2300 Holly or Ford/Autolite . I got mine from local speed
shop, my case a 332Y in a 56 F900 to accept a 2300G Holly. And another truck I have
also a 332 Y I put a 368 Lincoln / Mercury 4 barrel intake with 4160 Holly..
