Yes, the clutch will work with either. It may have the 11" clutch, the larger trucks do. I would leave it, you are less likely to have clutch chatter with the larger clutch.

Thanks for the clutch info guys. The guy I am buying the trans from said I need to swap the flywheel and clutch assembly and that didn't sound right to me.

He might of been saying you should swap the flywheel and clutch assembly, which is not bad advice. But you do not "have to" swap them. Your current setup is way heaver than is needed which reduces acceleration, is harder to use, etc. But if you are just wanting to drive it around and are not concerned about performance it should be fine.

How much of a noticeable difference can it be though? The whole reason I am doing it is because number one, I am used to 3spds. and I live in an area that is pretty heavily congested. If I was out in the sticks I might opt on keeping it. I also hate double clutching, I hated it so much in my model a that I swapped in a 39 trans with a clings adapter. Best thing I ever did.

The 11" pressure plate weighs 2 pounds more than the 10". The clutch discs are probably a pound or less different. You would never notice the difference. The 11" clutch will work just fine.

Sorry to disagree but there is a big difference. It has to do with where that weight is located and momentum and acceleration. There is even a big difference between a 10 inch clutch and a 9 inch clutch setup. I would never go larger than a 9 inch myself. The 11 inch will work and may be fine for the application, but you can't say you won't notice the difference because you will!

I just swapped a 4 speed for a HD 3 speed. I used the 11" clutch. Stop and go traffic aint no big deal.

For a truck as heavy as it is and especially if you are going to use it as a pickup I would leave the 11". An inch bigger clutch will not make or break anything.

In my low (37,000) mileage '48 F-1 I replaced the 4-speed crash box with a regular (light-duty) three-speed. Kept the original clutch - didn't even take it off the flywheel. Drives like a new truck! Very happy. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!

excellent, thanks for the feedback guys. do you guys leave your spring packs alone when it comes to the ride of the truck. She seems very stiff with all those springs in there. I am going to be hauling with it occasionally but nothing too heavy.

Another question for you guys, how do I get the ignition switch out? Does the bezel hold it on? Can't seem to figure it out.

IIRC, it has been a while since I took mine out. Push the back of the switch toward the dash, like you are trying to push it thru the hole from the back. Turn the stainless bezel and pull it off, then take the switch out from the back. I can look tomorrow afternoon and double check.

The bezel should snap off. Then get behind the switch and push it towards you and turn it to clear the hole in the dash. It's actually not very hard if you do it right.

Got it off, thanks guys. Is there any source on the correct screws that hold the door inspection panels on? They are a counter sunk flathead sheetmetal screw. The vendors are Phillips head. I went to a local hardware that has everything but they didn't have them.
