Default Birds in my shop

Guys I like to keep my shop doors wide open in the evenings & weekends when I am home but birds like to come in & build their nests ! How do I keep them out ? They will die if I close doors with them in there .No AC gets very hot !!
Thanks
Cheers
Tony

Tony, I wish I knew the answer to that. I get the little wren's every year making nests everywhere. They make them in my shoes in the garage. They sometimes get in my shop and it is really difficult to get them out so I can close the doors.

Try hanging a plastic owl in the garage.
It works on crows here.

Be thankful you only have birds in your garage and not bats in your belfry ! I had to keep removing robins attempts at nest building for several days but they finally moved on to another location close by but no dropping on my truck anyway.

I don't mind the birds as much as I do the packrats. Those cute little guys can ruin your day a lot of different ways.

A few years back when looking for the small window/door security devices, I remember a product that you plugged into an outlet and it gave off a signal that claimed to keep rodents, ect. out of that signal area. It may work on our feathered friends as well.

The problem on my street are the cats, you know how they like to "spray". Cat urine is the most vile smell in the summer sun, on your white walls.

Try sanding it out of hardwood floors! I redid my floors in the house and every time it got hot and humid, I could still smell it! I have no use for cats.

I have chipmunks getting in my garage when the door is open, I usually use my pellet rifle to control them.

I was at the big market grocery here. There was a couple sparrows flying around. Been there for a few months. I found it relaxing.

The only effective method I have seen is to take away their landing places. Take a look at commercial buildings in most metro areas and you see the little spikey things along the ridge lines and nets suspended inside covered areas preventing them access to the areas where they most desire to roost. Pricey I expect. Personally, if they die from the heat I would consider it an "avian suicide" and toast their passing. Unless, they are the last spotted owl in which case I would eat them late at night, when no one is around, and see if they taste like chicken.

Rubber snakes or owls usually work.

When I was in the Air Force we had a maintenance commander (Colonel) who would shoot pigeons with a pellet gun in the hangars on the weekends. He found it relaxing.

I don't think there are any spotted owls in Utah. I think the only ones left are the Mexican Spotted owls that are responsible for drive by hootings in Oregon and Washington.

Went to use my bead blast cabinet the other day and one glove was full of birds nest. At least I have a door at both ends so that increases their chances of escaping.

Great ideas ! Lonnie .... yes, its Barn Swallow nest-building time in my rafters too. I recall ads for high frequency emitters too. People around me use the dummy Owls to successfully ward of geese and ducks. Anyone make plastic falcons or cats ? How about a full-sized photo of my Mother-in-Law ?
