Re: My new 48 F-1
The breakers on the left are the correct ones. I suspect the others are some kind of aftermarket or off another type of vehicle.

Re: My new 48 F-1
The breakers on the right, separate from the gauge cluster, are correct for a '48-'50.

Re: My new 48 F-1
Lol, so which ones are correct? The breakers on the right (seperate) are what was in my truck. The cluster with the circuit breaker attached is a spare cluster I bought.

Re: My new 48 F-1
Mark's correct, the manual shows the difference on p. 276. But I've seen the 51-on type on 48-50 dashes, too, may have been a running change?

Re: My new 48 F-1
So I would probably be ok running either one? The ones on the right that were in my truck were causing the smoke. Previous owner had removed them from the cluster as they were taped to the cowl arm with electrical tape. I have no idea why. But they came into contact with the choke cable and started sparking. Do you think they are still ok. Also the previous owner had a twelve volt battery hooked up.

Re: My new 48 F-1
Thanks guys. I will leave the one that is on it and see what that gets me. I just ordered the main harness so I can wire it back up and get it running again. I am going to have to start getting on this thing though because a friend wants it in her wedding in June. Time to light the fire!

Re: My new 48 F-1
Say good bye to the 4 spd. Today I had some time between work and a family get together and the weather was perfect. My 48 is now a light duty 3 speed truck. Swap was fairly easy but I would never have imagined the weight of the 4 speed being so heavy. One person doing it is a chore but had the swap done in under 2 hours.
Old 4 speed on the way out. 4 speed out, nice looking pressure plate and clutch 3 speed in Managed to do the whole swap, driveshaft, etc, in two hours. Not bad.

Re: My new 48 F-1
Some of you know that I have re-wired my truck and had some problems, I think I have it all figured out finally. I also lost the fuel pump this past week so I got a new one and it got here today. I put it on and it took me some priming but she fired up and ran very nice, no vibrations, sounds like a sewing machine.
I decided to take it for a spin around the block. Ran great for about three blocks then stalled. I could not get it re - started. I got some starting fluid and it needed a bunch of shots down the carb to get it to start. When it did start it ran like a champ and got me back home. I shut it off and waited a second and hit the starter button and it fired on the first crank. Am I good? Why do you think it stalled?

Re: My new 48 F-1
Started it today and it started pretty easy, no choke was needed. It gets warm pretty quick and the temp needle always goes past half way. I have an original shroud for it that I am going to put on. Do you think that will help bring te temp down a bit? I do not know if it has thermostats in it.

Re: My new 48 F-1
Need to figure out what temperature your running at. IR or a mechanical gauge or something. The stock gauge is not going to tell you actual temperature.

Re: My new 48 F-1
So no 3 speed manual trannys need to be double clutched? I was told from my dad that my truck a 48 ford f1 had to be double clutched and have been going through it quite heavily for the last year or so, so I haven't had but a round or two around the block in it and kind of wondered why shifting it was suck a bastard! Maybe the old man was wrong?

Re: My new 48 F-1
3 spd. manual trannies from a Model A need to be double clutched but every other 3 spd. 32 on that I have driven does not need it. Straight cut gears are what requires it.
