Re: 40 going back together - my random questions thread
I don’t think there needs to be any flare on the end of the line, just the straight tube. The sealing is accomplished by the ferrule. I will have to remove the one on my 37 to see how far it extends into the tank.

Re: 40 going back together - my random questions thread
line goes in the tank just enough to hold the ferrule, maybe 1/4 "past ferrule.

Re: 40 going back together - my random questions thread
Compressing the spring and getting the part # 91A-2113 on can be tricky. I use a pair of needle nose vice grips with rubber hose slipped over the jaws, to clamp the cable after compressing the spri8ng enough to get some space to slip the split washer part # 91A-2113, on.

Re: 40 going back together - my random questions thread
I see now. I didn’t mess with the old line enough to see that the what I thought was a flare is actually the ferrule. I took some pliers and was able to jiggle it loose and I see there is no flare at the end. Thank you everyone. Onward!

I've never heard of soldering the ferrules. In my mind they are compression fittings and I've always used them without solder.

Ford soldered each and every ferrule in the fuel system.

Re: 40 going back together - my random questions thread
I've taken apart a lot of old Fords over the last 65 years and don't remember having seen a soldered ferrule. Ya' learn something every day. I have replaced a few of them without soldering and never had a leak. I'm surprised Henry would spend that much time and money.

Quote:
The ferrule won't necessarily leak fuel. However, they will reduce the efficiency of the fuel pump when there is a vacuum leak at any of the ferules.
