Re: bypassing the resister
Just to be clear, attaching the wire from the small post on the solenoid to the pos or neg post on the coil ?

Re: bypassing the resister
NO, NO, The small post on any early FORD solenoid is grounded by the starter push button on the dash. You think about what that will do to either of the small coil terminals. Connected to the POS coil terminal which goes to the dist points that would prevent spark happening,so engine wont start. Would cause the solenoid to close if the dist contacts were closed. Starter might crank. If connected to the NEG coil terminal that would cause a dead short when the starter button is pressed if the ignition is switched ON. Would overheat the ignition resistor. Im not sure what you are trying to achieve here but you need to understand electrical circuits before making any modifications. Also note I am talking about original FORD factory circuits here not something that has modifications. Regards, Kevin.

Re: bypassing the resister
Koates, I have a 2 small post solenoid, I was told to hook a wire to the post on the right marked ( I ) and the other end to the coil. Is this correct ?

Re: bypassing the resister
If you have a solenoid with 4 terminals, 2 large, 2 small, refer back to my post at the beginning. the small post S is for start. this triggers the solenoid to connect both big cables and engage the starter. The other small terminal I is ignition. this terminal is only hot when the solenoid is in starter mode, all connected. Yes, The I terminal goes to the coil, same as Ford products after 1956

Re: bypassing the resister
Connect it to the side that comes from the dash, not the side that goes to the distributor
