I am no expert but my understanding is that it is all about torque. The extra torque reveals itself pulling better in 3rd gear less shifting down to 2nd and ditto using overdrive

By comparison, my '31 pickup with a 6.0 head pulls better going up a hill in 3rd gear than my '48 Willys jeep with stock L134 does.
