Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Hi Chris,
That Comet is a great looking car. A little nostalgia there? I also have a soft spot for the early Comets and Fairlanes, (the mid-sized ones) as I owned a couple of Fairlanes. One of my first cars was a '61 (I believe) Fairlane 500 four door, I bought for $150, in '67, which had been lightly wrecked on the passenger side. I had the local trade school repaint and match the door I replaced and a little more body work. It was a pretty good car, considering that it had the gutless little 221 cu. in. engine and 3 on the tree. Great gas mileage! My favorite car of the era tho, was my '65 Fairlane, which I bought in '68 shortly after Mary and I married for about $1000. It was a beautiful Maroon two-door hardtop, with black leatherette interior, with a 289 ci two-barrel V8, which I think was rated at 225 hp. It was also a three speed, but had the overdrive transmission, which I dearly loved. It must have been geared around 4.11 because it had great acceleration, but with overdrive, it got very good mileage. We have Many fond memories of that car. One of those cars I should have kept, but just couldn't justify it. Al Hook |

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Chris,
You might want to consider media blasting the cap to remove the chrome finish. I've had good luck removing finishes with glass beads. With a bit of care it's possible to leave a bit of the chrome finish behind. This should leave a nice matte finish and you can make it blend in with the other parts to age it appropriately. Just an idea for your consideration. Retired 4 years now and love it.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
I was working a little on another project, our Allis -Chalmers CA. Gathering parts and doing a little much needed organization, I found the gas cap for the tank. A little smaller than the 32 original for sure but has some aged patina and about the right look. So this may reside on the ragged ol truck for a while. The old tractor gas cap, I like this better!: The 33 shiny cap Al, We are looking forward to getting the new toy home and on the lift to check it out. Looks like a week or two away. I was able to start driving in 68 so these cars would have been good used cars then and looked pretty good to a young man! Still like them including the Ford Fairlane's of the mid 60's too. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
My first new car was a '63 Fairlane 500 hardtop with a 260 V8. I traded it in on a new '64 hardtop with a 289 and a four-speed.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
David,
I hope the 289 with dual exhaust has a nice rumble. Maybe not quite as sweet as a flathead sounds, but we will see? Hope to have some smiles driving the new red toy. Regards, Chris

hardtop with a 260 V8. The car was sold new at Wentworth Auto Sales in Guys Mills, PA. and has never left the area. If it's there next year we'll make sure to take a picture. |

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
When I was senior in HS in '69 I had a '65 Falcon 2 dr. wagon with a 289 and an automatic. A guy I worked with had a '64 Comet with a 289 and a full syncro 3 speed which got totaled. I bought the entire wreck for $185.00 which began my education into all things small block engine swaps. Through dumb luck the conversion to the standard trans was pretty much a bolt in job but the differences between 5 bolt and 6 bolt blocks and different output splines between the automatic and the manual did cause some learning difficulties, so to speak. As time went by I installed a different engine with a solid cam, headers, and an after market intake and a T-10 4 speed. I sold the wagon to another guy I worked with when I got drafted. Came home on leave to find out he side swiped a power pole and caved in the entire driver's side from the door to the tailgate.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
The seeds get planted early as to the cars we have driven and had when we were young. Most of the memories are good. The sound of dual glass packs on a old 56 Ford Victoria with a Y block, driving past our farm, still resonates in my mind. Probably why my first old car was a 55 Crown Vic. John and I both were attracted to those and met by chance on the side of the road staring into the engine compartment of his stalled Y block in his 55! Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
We are nearing the start of our maple syrup season. Being a year older I think I may hire a young guy to help get the tubing systems set up. The 32 dump truck will rest in the warm shop as the weather gets cold and wet! Perfect for making syrup. Cold nights and alternating warm days. I will hijack my own thread! We did add the 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente to the fleet today. Not home yet but soon we hope. The travel distance is only 10 miles, So we can go visit it if needed! Not great pictures in a unlit garage Hope things are good in Ford land! Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Thanks guys on the 65. We did get it home today and are reviewing some of the details.
John and Adam drove the Merc home and Cheryl and I followed. Uneventful and all systems seemed to function. The 32 truck was a little concerned that "lil red" was getting so much attention in the shop! We are back to blizzard conditions, expecting snow and much colder temps. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
I had the same thing but it was a 63 1/2 with the 289 hipo and 4 speed. It was my first brand new car.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Now you’ll have to build another garage to house all the cars/trucks you haul home. Have fun with your new acquisition.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
I was looking at the thread about hijacking a thread. I do a great job of both that and the subject drift too, in my own threads! I really hope the building thing stops soon, As we don't have much more room on the property. Back on the 32 truck: I was at NAPA getting some items and picked up some Zerex G05 antifreeze for the truck. Yes its setting is a warm garage but If a door would get opened some how it could get very cold in there. Drained some coolant out and checked it and it was pretty week. So added some of the nonfoaming Zerex back in, Then ran the truck for a little bit to get things circulated. Also added some Stabil in the gas tank for the winter months. All good. Cleaned up the running boards and the inside floor boards. One thing I would like to do this year is to show the truck with the bed raised a little maybe 6 inches. Then block it up for safety. Cold here tonight about 8 degrees above zero. Hope things are good in Ford land! Regards, Chris and Cheryl
