Took my Mustang out for a car show two weeks ago in the blazing heat....105 degrees. Drove about 60 miles total at highway sppeds and when I pulled in the driveway... saw trans fluid trailing behind me! Leaking fluid heavily from the front of trans/convertor bellhousing area. C4 trans was a new rebuild with heavy duty upgrades and has a after market 2800 rpm stall convertor. Shifts great and works fine behind a worked over 289 engine. No added trans cooler other than that in aluminum Griffin radiator.
Trans was done by a shop 1100 miles away so not possible to return. Front seal blown? Covertor? Need help here. Thanks |

Not much to leak on a converter as it is a sealed unit. My guess is front pump seal.

probably the fromt seal, its neoprene and if the lip of it wasnt greased real good when installed the lip gets hot because of friction and will melt and leak, that happens alot with diy mechanics, live and learn, also it could have been bent or nicked when installed or installed crooked

Front seal for sure. If you let the car sit for too long before driving it the seal can dry out too. My Buddy's '67 Mustang had a rebuilt transmission and he drove it almost every day. Then had and engine problem and it sat for two years. When he took it out he had the front seal go out.
