I'm the third generation to own my Model A, wouldn't think of modifying it in any way like that. Build a ramrod from scratch, sure--but no inheritance or original!

I too have seen a cool rat rod or two and heard the stories about a piece here and a piece there to make the car but never before heard of taking a good complete car and turning it into one.

Still stupid!
If I read the story right, the father had a restored car that the apraiser knew of, the son pours battery acid to "age" the car and chopped the top all to simulate a rat rod then called the apraiser to have it appraised. Yea stupid!

Is there any above posters who have NEVER done anything STUPID?? If so, step forward & I.D. yourself. It's for CERTAIN, that I WON'T be on that list!
Chief said, "Stupid means that you have ALL the right facts & info, then blindly go ahead & screw up ROYALLY!" Someone here wrote, "I thought I made a mistake once, I was WRONG." I love that line, It's classic! Wait! wait!----Oh my God!!! I just thought I heard Chief laughing uncontrolably!!! Maybe it was My Ghost, back from checkin' out Mr. Tube's attic & basement of his really intrigueing house. That house should be on an episode of "This Old House." Someone should do a show called, "THIS OLD OUTHOUSE," as they would never run out of construction designs & tecniques & the HUMOR would be endless-----I'd better stop! Bill W. |

I heard that quote from my father as, "I made a mistake once: I thought I was wrong." A little different interpretation.

So, exactly how many of these cherished and rare artifacts did Henry build? Yeah, that's what I thought. Was it stupid? To some, yes, others, no, to me, don't care in any degree. If it was something notable, something that was a true artifact, well it was even more stupid, yet who am I to judge? I wouldn't do it and not many if any of you would either. Still, there were so many Fords produced that they make up the majority of hotrods in all years and styles. So by that thinking you could say Mother Nature and most of mankind since 1930 is even more stupid than the kid who made one his own. Ma nature destroyed so many we'll never know, mankind consumed them for transportation and work like a candy addict consumes a bag of M&Ms. Would it be better if it were turned into a sawmill?
Wait a min, what was this topic again?

Hi,
I love Hot Rods but to take a good base for a Hot Rod does hurt me too. On the other hand, anyone can do what he wants. Maybe the guy was not aware of the value of a good Model A. Not much to get excited, finally we have a hobby and not a religion. Let's hope that he is building at least one exceptional Hot Rod. Greetings from Switzerland Barney Attached: That is a Hot Rod. What a dream. |

^^^Yep that's a great hotrod. A huge percentage of the cutup cars never look that nice ever and a percentage of them never get finished.
There are plenty of project cars for sale that someone could pick up if they wanted too. I like both, stock and rodded. |

I agree with highlander who are we to judge anything someone wonts to do with there property. I have three a:s and would never put battery acid on them, if this boy did it it is his business not ours. I assume the ones calling him stupid has never done anything some one else would call stupid.( judge not less you be jugded )

I can hear Ole' Henry saying, "I've given you a sweet ride that is VERY Hotrodable, Hopupable!" (or whatever term was used at that time.) He continued, "Be interesting to see what folks do with it!"
In looking up patent numbers on my '30 I.D. plate, one was for a new design rocker arm system to operate OVERHEAD VALVES!!! HMMMM!-------Bill W. |

One thing is for sure. If Henry was here he would think everyone on this forum is out of their mind. If there was one thing Henry couldn't stand it was people sticking with old things. What was it he said once? History is bunk? |

I ran into this guy at a local store today. Another decent car gone. He said he was going to either paint if flat black or sandblast and let it rust and then clear coat. I did see the complete chasis that came out from under it. It looked to be an older restoration. A local guy bought everything except the body from the rat rodder.
