Hey guys, i need to replace the low gear drum in the transmission as the bands were so worn the rivets had dug in and ripped it up pretty good.
I asked the guy that is redoing my motor if it can be turned and he said it was to far gone, so my question is are the low speed drums the same in my 26 as in other years? i'm looking for a good used one and i thought i heard that the 26 and27 years were larger? Thanks Scott |

I just took a quick look in the Snyders catalog , WOW $515 for a new one...
Better find a used one ? Drums cant be turned in a lathe they must be ground on a grinder . A turned drum will screw the linings right off the band with the lathe marks. Dont ask how i know that one ??? I would try Rons Machine Shop in Ohio , they built my last transmission. 513-738-7353 |

The L & R are all the same. The brake drum is wider on the 26-27. Take some brake cleaner, a wire brush and a magnafying glass to inspect the webbing on the drum. If all that passes then take it to a shop for a REAL inspection with magnaflux or what ever else they use. These are all prone to web cracking, and BARELY visble!!! ws

Call Bob's Antique Auto, Loves Park IL
Got a nice new '25 narrow brake drum, re-furbished with good used shaft, for much less than the new drums..they do the refurb for the wide drums too....they may also have a good used one in stock, sometimes if you are lucky. |
