Default Photo request 32 locking spare strap

I am looking for photos of the swiveling lock cover and specifically the rivet. Also is there a spring on this?

jim1932,
There is no spring attached to the rivet on the dust cover for this lock. I have had several of these locking straps and no spring on the rivet on any of them. I sold the dust cover to a friend that told me he still has the old rivet. I will PM you his email address.

Thanks, I have the cover and a rivit that was supposed to be a reproduction, but no way the rivit will work.

I pulled it all out again. The issue I have is I have a cast repop cover with a rivit, but the diameter of the rivet is too big to fit throught the hole in the cover. I also have an original pressed cover, which is what I want to use, and the rivit will go through that hole, but is way too small in diameter for the hole in the strap. Where would you go to get a larger diameter rivit?

I think your problem is that someone back in the day drilled out the hole in your original strap, the hole in the strap and the cover hole should be the same. To solve the problem you need to simply drill out the hole in the cover. Then trial fit the repro rivet in the strap. it shoulnl'd go in as this was intended to be an interferance fit, If you have a drill set, try increasingly larger drills till you find the largest drill that will go in the hole of the strap. the next larger size is what size rivet to use. mic the drill dia that is the size of the rivet you need. nearly any local hardware store will have a selection of rivets .Usually steel or aluminum. (not Pop Rivets) Originally this was a " Drive Rivet" (small circular splines on the body diameter).Example of this style is the firewall data plate drive rivets. Although these a much smaller. If all else fails &You can;t locate one locally , try Roy Nacewicz He has many oddball original type fasteners.

Dumb me....never thought of measuring the holes with a drill-bit. The repro rivet and the repro cover match each other, but the rivet it too small in diameter for the original cover and strap. Interesting, as the original cover I have did not come with this strap. The repops are a bit loose on a 7/64 bit, but a 1/8 will not go through the hole. On the originals a 1/8 bit is a little loose in the hole, but a 9/64 bit will not go through.
