What vendor (parts place) do you guys use to purchase a new pair of rear axle/hub cage bearings and seals?
I have the (according to the bottom adjustable brakes) '39-'42 rear brake and hub assembly. I also have the reccomended (several past posts) SL-3131 bearing grease to pack them. Thanks. |

Bobby C. I bought 4 tubs/cans of the Sta-Lube SL-3131 from a local Auto Parts store here. They said the warehouse had 16 cans before I bought my 4.
Kube. Thanks for the advice! Then who does sell the correct caged bearings? |

Fred at Southside Obsolete has real bearings. I don't use anything else in a banjo rebuild.

Good used bearing are "out there" and worth the effort to find them. The real deal will have the Ford script on the cage.

I have heard horror stories about inferior replacement wheel bearings. Quite a few years ago now (15, 20?) C&G advertised new caged wheel bearings with hardened cages. I purchased a pair after failing to find any good used bearings. Dad and I put over 10k miles on that car in the next fifteen years and had no problems with the wheel bearings.
I would not hesitate to use new C&G bearings. |

Kube has good advice. It is worth the effort to find known good Ford bearings
either used or NOS from South side Obsolete (Fred). John

It helps a bunch if you leave a link to whom you're making reference. Many folks don't have a clue who FRED is. Link BELOW! Coop Fred Wilner - ("barnfind08" here on the 'Barn) SOUTHSIDE OBSOLETE 7136 200th St E. Faribault, MN 55021 (507) 332-6789 . |

Here's the rear Ford script rear bearing with hub minus grease seal and snap ring.
Be sure and read this: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=234677 and https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...+wheel+bearing Last edited by 19Fordy; 06-12-2024 at 09:38 AM. |
