rear drum studs
I have a 1940 rear drum that I want to put on my 1947 car (its in storage) But
the studs don't seem very long. Will the rim/tire still mount on it ? |

Re: rear drum studs
If it is a true 01A rim (1940) it'll work just fine as it is on your '47.

Re: rear drum studs
Actually this is a replacement drum that I picked up to replace my old one. The studs look shorter than my 47. My car is in storage so can't look at them right now. Were all the studs for 40-48 the same ?

Re: rear drum studs
Passenger car studs were the same between '40 - '48.

Re: rear drum studs
You mean a drum/hub assembly, not a reproduction drum, right? And, the studs you found were the same length as original, not something a parts book jockey handed to you, right?

Re: rear drum studs
Yes, its a good used drum/hub assembly I bought a little while ago. It is a 1940 drum/hub that I want to put on my 47 car.So I was hoping it would fit without any problems.
I am replacing the bearing and seals but wanted to know after removing the snap ring, how to remove the grease seal ? any tricks without hammers ? Moe |

The seal is not usable once you pull it, so have a new one ready to install in it's place. |

Re: rear drum studs
There are Wheel differences as to lug holes ! Innies vs outies, pre war vs post war. If lug nut only uses half of its threads, you will see the difference in length. Newc

Re: rear drum studs
Fit by bolt circle is the same, But the studs can be tooo short for some wheels. My forty with post war 15" had only half the threads used in the lug nuts. Newc

Re: rear drum studs
Using only half the thread does not seem safe. So my 47 rim will mount alright on a 40 drum/hub ok ?

Re: rear drum studs
Your 47 rim will mount perfectly on the 40 drum.

Re: rear drum studs
Yes, your '47 wheel will fit the '40 drum, but as has been said, the
lug studs on the '40 drum will be to short for a safe fit of the '47 wheel. The '40 and the '47 wheels have different styled lug nut holes !!! Click on pics to Enlarge !st pic is '40-'41 Ford Wheel... 2nd. pic is '46-'48 Ford wheel.
