Re: 56 f100
I've been down that road in the past. Bought a '56 F100 with a 327 engine, and it was a typical Chev, the cam was flat, the guides were worn out and the rear main thrust was wasted. Did the best thing I could do...It now keeps my ski dock in place and the pickup wound up with a sweet running Y block

Re: 56 f100
Best idea is to replace the scrub engine with a Y Block.

The 1956 Ford F-100 is a great looking truck. Congratulations on your good choice of vehicle. |

Now wait a minute. Are you trying to supersede me as the most disliked poster here? I don't understand some people (well, at my age, most people). All that needed to be mentioned is that this is an all FORD FORUM and to better find help somewhere where the information would most likely be more available. It's a new society Sal and it ain't gonna get any better. "I Came To Praise Caesar ... " Last edited by KULTULZ; 01-20-2024 at 01:59 PM. |

Re: 56 f100
That rear sump pan is what did it. The SBC fit in just about everything as a bolt in. Ford's front sump on everything required chassis mods and other stuff to fit. Add to that the ever changing engine line....flat head - Y block - MEL - FE - Windsor - Cleveland and now the Mod motors. Easy to be the engine of choice when the basic structure didn't change for decades.

FORD had to counter GM's multi-vehicle lines (CHEV-GMC-PONT-OLDS-BUICK) with each having it's own engine tech whereas FORD had to CYA on all it's divisions with fewer engine options.
