Default End of distributor shaft ground away

So on my 292 y block my distributor was giving me problems with the advance so I yanked it since I already had the heads off and where it goes into the oil pump drive shaft looks like it has been grinding any ideas on why this happened doesn't look like the pump drive shaft is hurt it was the original distributor the truck has 19 thousand it's been sitting since 87 bought off this really old lady for 500 bucks said it was her sons poor guy commited suicide 30 years ago and she finally wanted to let it go as long as I got it running and kept it

Cool Re: End of distributor shaft ground away

The only conjecture ... ... I have is that at some point someone was having trouble putting it back in (noticed an interference) and had to modify it.

That is taking into consideration that the dist housing bushings and oil pump were good.

Not sure why someone would do that, but as long as it has no rough edges I suspect it will be fine.
There shouldn't be any real side play in that shaft unless the bushings are shot.
