Default 1957 Ford 312 air cleaner

I have a 1957 Ford retractable with a 312 cu.in. motor/w 4 barrel carb. What is the correct sized air cleaner for it? I have three of them to pick from. They measure 14'1/2", 16 1/2" and 18" diameters My guess is that the smallest is for the 292 Y block, the 16 1/2" is for the 312 y block and the 18" diameter is for something later like maybe a 332, 352 or even maybe a 390 cu inch? In the attached photos, you will notice that even the air intakes on the air filter bodies are of three different sizes too. Please help me pick the correct air cleaner. I would like my retractable to be as Ford sold it.

I'm not sure, but if you go to 57fordsforever.com Introduce yourself, sign in and post your question, someone will have the answer. I thought they got bigger in the early 60's Mark

I agree, the center one looks correct to me. Even looks to be the correct color, Argent Gray.

The smallest one (on the left) is a '57 V8 air cleaner, but it was used for the 2-bbl carb. Maybe they used the same one for both 2 and 4-bbls ? Dont know for sure.

Dear SOMFUMCOMET. I plan on using the smaller air cleaner on a Ranchero that I have.

Here is the center pictured air cleaner sitting atop of our 312 in our Skyliner retractable. Good fit and it looks good.
