1936 Cabriolet Regulator Gear
My drivers side window regulator jumps a gear tooth when I role the window up.
I removed the rivets from the crank gear case and found the gear warn and needs replacement. The problem is it has 12 teeth. I can't find a 12 tooth gear for inside the crank mechanism of the '36 Cabriolet. I have seen 4, 6 and 10 tooth gears but I can't find a 12 tooth gear. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Re: 1936 Cabriolet Regulator Gear
I have aconv sedan that had bad regulators, I found some kits at Hershey, had to buy the whole box---as you say the12 tooth is not common, I have the trim and hardware book, it has picture of the regulator, I looked in piles of unidentified (cheap) regulators at fleamarkets---found NOS and sold off the patched up ones for much more than I paid for NOS, sold off all the kits too, but I just found a small box with some regulator parts, but won't be able to look till the weekend
Have you tried "regulator Roy"-609 828 8537 ---he advertises in V8 times, and he has beat me out several times when we were both working through a pile of regulators (he just buys them all) |

Re: 1936 Cabriolet Regulator Gear
There are some $pendy window regulator repair parts for the 1931 slant windshield cars available from Snyders. I have not been able to compare them to the convertible but the photos and illustrations I have studied suggest the same design and possibly interchangeable parts. Snydersantiqueauto.com.

Re: 1936 Cabriolet Regulator Gear
Good news for someone but not for me.
The 12 tooth gear from a model A fit a 1936 regulator BUT did not solve my problem. When I crank the window up it goes about 4 inches and binds, then pops as though skipping a tooth. everything looks good, window moves freely without regulator so it is not in the tracks and I can't find problems visible in the gears. Reg Roy, although very pleasant, has nothing to help but, he did give me lead that did not pan out. Now I am looking for another 36 Cabriolet regulator. |

Re: 1936 Cabriolet Regulator Gear
We had the exact same problem with our '36 Cabriolet. Half way up it would get on a bind and slip a tooth, so we put a small bracket so the regulator wouldn't twist or get in a bind and it took care of the problem. It was an easy fix really.

Re: 1936 Cabriolet Regulator Gear
The window regulators in my '47 convertible were worn out, and one was actually adapted from a closed car. The convertible regulators are special due to the weight of the stainless framed glass. Finding different ones was difficult, and I only found one, so we disassembled all the regulators and removed the gears. We then wire welded all the teeth, and reshaped them with a die grinder. They now operate like new.
