Head Nut washer use Q....
Does anyone know of any negative effect/reason why hard washers should not be used under flathead cast iron head nuts ? Anyone use this method ?

No negative effects.
I use them because an alien friend told me to many years ago. |

Heck, that's good enough for me, as I've a bunch of ailing friends also ! I'm betting that you were told by the same alien friends that told big Al G the plans for inventing the computer,eh ? lol I was just wondering if hard washers make torqueing more better mechanically ? That is, hard smooth surface to move on. I'm going to try some on my cast iron head project. Yeah, I agree with using hard washes on aluminum and will be doing so also. On stuff like head nuts, main nuts and rod nuts, I use a dial indicator to read torque. I lube the threads also. |

Re: Head Nut washer use Q....
Thanks, I'll graphite lube on the stud nuts then. Hm, what's a 'dial indicator' anyway.
For torque, I have four old timey torque wrenches and one brand new Snap On 300 lbs capacity, that I 'borrowed temporarily' from kousin Ron ! |

Re: Head Nut washer use Q....
i dont know of any reason to not use them, they are needed on aluminum heads to stop the head nuts from galling to the head
