Car Wax
Wondering what your recommendations are for waxing your Model A. My car has pretty nice looking 32 year old lacquer.

Re: Car Wax
Try Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax (pure synthetic polymer) and you won't be disappointed. I bought mine in their kit so I got the application pad and towel. Then buy a pack of Harbor Freight microfiber towels. You may gasp at the price of the Meguiar's, but you won't be disappointed.

Re: Car Wax
Mine is 27 years and still looks quite decent. Mine was PPG chromabase paint to start with.

Re: Car Wax
I use Griots products. All made in the USA....all water base.
I do a once a year hand wax. Rest of the year just spray and wipe with Griots product. Could not be more happy with their products or service. Gil. NoCal |

Re: Car Wax
Asking what wax to use is like asking what oil to use. You will get a variety of opinions. Here is mine: I use something called Rejex. It is a polymer finish that is not a wax. It lasts a long time and the car washes easily. Makes the paint shine. www.corrosionx.com

Re: Car Wax
Have you ever tried using a clay bar? Meguires has a kit for about $20 with everything you need in it. I start with the clay bar then follow it up with Meguires Carnuba Paste-not liquid. It comes out like glass. My wife does this same process with her own car then follows it up with Meguires Ceramacoat spray-the one in the green bottle. It puts a nice finish on it and hides any minor little imperfections. Good luck

Re: Car Wax
Ray, years ago I used Color Back that would remove oxidized paint, it wasn't gritty. I've not looked for it I think it's no a longer available.

Re: Car Wax
I have a forty year collection of 'pre-cleaners', glazes, & waxes......nothing works better & easier than Mequiar's Cleaner Wax in the maroon plastic bottle.
Certain paints & certain colors respond to differently to different waxes, plus it's all in the eye of the beholder. Experiment or save your $$, start with Mequiar's. |

Jim,
Is the Mequiars Cleaner Wax PN A1216, like in the picture below? I might try it on my vehicles. Rusty Nelson |

Re: Car Wax
Yes Rusty, you found it.
Most owners loath waxing their car and it shows. Even freshly washed, unwaxed paint can be dull & 'gray'. Mequiar's is the perfect cleaner wax to restore a paint's clarity & brilliance. If you are among the few who enjoy maintaining their car's finish and can see the difference, there are higher end polishes, glazes, & waxes. All this applies to 'aged' paint. Fresh paint needs time to cure(vape) and requires polishes & waxes that allow the paint to breath. Look at Presta products from auto body supply shops. |

Re: Car Wax
Jim,
I also need to apply some kind of wax to the nickel plated headlights, radiator shell and some other nickel plated item to protect them. Is this good for that job? Thanks Rusty |
