Default Rim flaps in radial tires?

We decided to go with radial tires this time around and just received the tubes to go in them. The rims on the car are far from perfect, so we had previously installed the rim flaps to protect the tubes from the rim. Now that we are ready to install the radials, I noticed on the rim flaps that it states they are for use in bias ply tires only. I have been unable to find any flaps on the vendors sites that say they can be used in a radial tire. Can anyone educate me on why these should not be used in radials? Thanks!

Can't help you with rim flaps but when I got my radials I also got rim strips from Coker Tire. These are like huge rubber bands about 2" wide and thin that go over the wheels were the spokes seat. They work fine ( 2 years.) I do not use rim flaps. Bill

I have no idea why a rim flap cannot be used with a radial tire. In the past I have used duct tape to protect the tube from rough spoke ends inside the wheels.

Yeah, I can't think why that limitation would exist. I wouldn't worry about it.

I would err on the side of caution. I put new Good Year Balloon tires in and I put the 'Flaps' or liners in.
