Our 6-21-28 A216238 has a multi-disk clutch!

Despite my uncles protests since it its never been touched since 1951 when he bought car. I went ahead and greased the thro-out bearing What A surprise! I was always told the multi was crap! My uncle dident believe me! He never thought it had one! as a kid growing up in a wreaking yard I never even saw one! This clutch works nice and smooth. I always thought the multi was only on the very early cars.

I have a friend that has a July 28 special coupe that had a multi-disc clutch in it that he drove for years. He decided to install a single disc clutch for some reason - the multi-disc was still working fine. He gave me all the multi-disc parts to install in my Sept 29 roadster, which I haven't done yet. I believe Ford used multi-disc clutches into November 28 and some plants probably even installed them a month or two later than November.

If you clean the teeth/internal spline in a multi - they'll probably last forever.

Its the dust packing in the internal spline which takes out the disks - one by one.

Also wear between the disk teeth and the internal spline - but wear alone shouldn't cause it to hang up.
