Default Super odd gas leak

So I have a problem. I recently purchased a gas cap washer. I believe it is leather or some material like that. Well I installed it in my cap and screwed my gas cap on. Well my car has been parked in the garage for about a week and the smell of gas is super strong. Well right by the gas cap there is gas leaking or coming out. My body is just primered right now so it easy to see the leak. But why would this be?? And he tank only has a few gallons in it. Super weird!! Thanks for the help!

cap is not vented or the new gasket covers up the vent hole

Turn the cap over and blow out the vent holes.

I'll check the vent holes when I get home later today. But yes James, that is what is so weird. The tank is not close to full and it is all wet all around the gas cap on the top of my cowl. Like it splashed out when I was driving or something... But maybe it's the vent holes..

"Maybe" the tank was TOO full & the gas expanded from heat & was pushed out of the vented cap???

Yeah the tank only has a few gallons in it... That is why it's so weird. But possibly , I'm hoping, the vents are clogged. When I get off I'll Check that and let you know.. It's just kind of odd that it never happened before I installed the washer/gasket that goes in the cap. It didn't have one when I bought the car... Maybe I should just take it out.. My wife complains of gas smell, so I was hoping that washer solved the issue... It's created more problems.... Now it really smells!

The only thing I can think of is that vapor is condensing in the top of the tank/cap and running out the vent holes where before it escaped differently before the washer. It still doesn't make much sense to me, is it in an air conditioned garage?

start by simply loosening the cap, vent the garage for half a day, then see what happens

Since the cap gasket is the only thing that has changed.......

28/29 or 30 /31 not stated ..

But a radiator cap with no vents fits the tank for 28/29.

You could have 2 radiator caps or both in wrong places.
