37 distrib question
What would be an acceptable gap between rotor and cap points?
Thanks, Gary |

Re: 37 distrib question
Anything between .005 + .040.But the closer the better as long as they dont hit.Easier to file down the 2 rotor blades than 8 plate pins.ken ct.

Re: 37 distrib question
When you are assembling the distributor, wrap electrical tape around the narrower portion of the distributor shaft. This helps keep the spark from arcing through the rotor to the shaft. Put as much tape as you can while still getting the rotor on.

Re: 37 distrib question
Yep , one of my secrets Actually i place a piece of heavy shrink tubing on all my builds for the helmets. Kinda always felt thats a good place for spark to try to travel to under a load. |

If so the rotor and side caps are mismatched. I just rebuilt one for a customer with the wrong side caps and the gap is huge....... Make sure you have the correct caps for the right application........... |

Re: 37 distrib question
Bubba, glad that you asked why. This is on a distrib that I just received back from you.
I had requested that you supply caps and rotor for the helmet that I sent along with points and setup. I received back the distrib with new points and used caps and rotor. The gap between the rotor and cap exceeded 60 thou. Hence the original post. Perhaps someone was trying to be helpful but they were not. If you can't supply, say so. It's better than sending that which belongs in a landfill. Also, who ever cleans the distib's up have them clean the recess that the rotor sits in and the oil tube that feeds that end. Attention to detail. Rant over. Yes, Bubba uses shrink tube on shaft. A nice touch. Gary |

Re: 37 distrib question
Gary,
Very sorry for the problems with the caps etc. Although i do a lot of these units i dont stock the caps rotors etc. Waiting on someone else to ship me the parts often means waiting another day or two. In your case i just added a pair of (factory used) units i had laying around. Hopefully the rest of the unit was ok.... Attached is the bulliten for the cap sides etc... |

Re: 37 distrib question
Ken I also do this since I got stranded on the side of the road the car just would not pull up a hill .I had just enough tools to get the dizy of ,then in desperation wound some tape around it and got home .
