Re: Ford 1940 innerfender
I think in back it only bolts to the fender. There should be a bolt and rubber bumper near the brake line cut out. There may be early/late differences as well. Kube will have the correct answer.

Re: Ford 1940 innerfender
The rear bottom is bolted to the frame with the fender splash shield.

And leave it loose while aligning fender/inner fender to hood.

Re: Ford 1940 innerfender
If the inner fender is a used one the portion of it with the bolt hole in it may have cracked and broken off.

Re: Ford 1940 innerfender
Here's how the fender brace in the right rear fender looks. Click on photo to enlarge. I don't think the 1/4-20 nut, bolt and washers shown are stock 1940 OEM.

Re: Ford 1940 innerfender
Here Is a picture of the inner fender brace for the front, this one is hand made but looks close and gives you an idea. Originals would have a bead rolled in the shape of an "X"
These go behind the front tire.

Re: Ford 1940 innerfender
The inner fender does bolt to the frame, it's bolted on with 4 bolts and one of the bolts is shared with the fender brace/mud flap. The mudflap is fastened to the fender with 2 bolts. Hope this helps.
