Re: Power steering
If you are running a SBC engine in your truck, I would suggest that you take the truck to the next level with a front clip with modern front suspension, coil springs, disk brakes, power rack pinion. TCI makes a real slick setup that works great on the older vehicles. I have a TCI under my 37 pickup.
You can try the old junk yard way of doing things, getting donor parts from a Mustang/Pinto, Gemlin, etc., however in the end you will end up with old parts, clabbered together under an old vehicle.

The parts required are basically the same for just about any power steering installation. A steering unit, a pump and a reservoir. The nice thing about sprint car or midget steerings, the reservoir is integral with the steering box. I drove the pump off the back of the cam. There are many other options for driving the pump. An option many people never consider is the 60's era Nash or Ford power units. They are a cylinder assist type with a linear control valve and can be installed without any mods to the stock steering other than attaching the cylinder ram. |
