1941 brakes-short shoe in front-long shoe in rear?
I've got parts to do brake job on 41 1/2 Truck-book appears to show short shoe on front-which is most is most common application with drum brakes-but I've seen posts saying the 41 style brakes are supposed to have long shoe in front. Can anyone settle the issue? My shoes have a short and long. Thanks in advance

If they're the original Lockheed-type Ford brakes, BIG shoes AND BIG end of wheel cylinders go toward the FRONT of vehicle.......front and rear axles. DD

Coopman has it right.
It is to the dismay of many of us regarding the stubbornness of Henry to stay with those Lockheed brakes for so many years. |

I remember it like coopman. Everything big goes to the front. Early Ford only, later models and bendix are different.

48 and back long shoe to the front. 49 and up short shoe to the front. At least that's what I was taught.

I just replaced the rear on my 1940 . The shoes come from either Mac's or Bob Drakes Both shoes were long . When I called they said it didn't matter that they would work . They seem to be fine & I've got very good brakes . Every thing is new except steel lines
