Default '34 Temp sender install question

Barners
I will be installing an accessory temp. gauge sender in the upper radiator hose, on my '34. Has any of you done this, successfully?? I purchased newly made parts for this, but I'm not sure of the process. The photo in the '33/'34 V8 resto book seems to have some sort of seal on the outside of the hose, under the "U" shaped outer clamp. Do any of you provide this service??
Thanks.

An alternitive is to use the 35 style water pump on the LH side and use the port of the temperature sender gauge. Very neat and factory appearance. A SW temp. bulb fits without modification.

it,s a two piece deal one has a thread that goes inside the hose after you drill a hole big enought for the adpt fiting to go through . the second goes on the outside of the hose now you put the thin nut on the adpt. fiting .catch the thread on the inside piece now tighen the nut that squeezes the two pieces together & seals it . make sure the adpt fiting has a seat inside for the temp bulb to seal on . when you tighen the sender bulb lighty pull & push on the sender tubing to see if there is play there. i have installed repro fitings that were not made right & leaked . to correct it i had to cut the top of the adpt. fiting to make the bulb nut seat. if you are not woried about judgeing use a 35 36 water pump they have the port on the pump.

The 35 pump thing will not work if you are using a gennie dual temp gauge . 33-34 temp gauges have a female connector - 35 -36 have a male connector . The repop hose fittings can be JUNK depending where they were made . Anyways the only seal is the inner & outer parts squeezing the hose . If you are using gennie stuff & want to do it right lemme know and I will send pics & location for the 1" hole you will need to put in your firewall . Use a speedo cable dash grommet to fill it after you string the gauge through . You will also need the 2 little clips that hold the line to the LH radiator support rod . Simple & easy if you have GOOD parts .

As I recall, you also need to put a loop in the cable where it first attaches to the support rod.

A couple of illustrations may help; the drawing is of a '32, but the basics are the same.

Attached are pics of a '33-'34 pump made with a Model 40 part # 40-8503-4 cast in it that has the hole for the temp sender. The hole is female threaded but there is an adaptor to allow the female threads of the sender to be attached.

There is a service bulletin in the Ford manuel. It says use a sharp knife and water as a lubricant and make the hole small. G.M.

Thanks to all for the response on the temp. sensor install. I do wish to keep the system correct for a '34 car, so '35 water pumps are out. I guess all I have to lose is a hose if I mess it up. Yes, I already have the correct components to install, just get skittish on new projects.

On a repop adaptor I had to turn down the nut and use an oring under the bulb to get it to seal as the stem was made to short.
