wonderful truck, and a nice clear photo as well. I transferred it to the A commercial thread in the interest of keeping that thread complete as possible. Thank you for posting it

Did you notice the mirrors on the back of the front fender running lights? No place on the body to put them.

Yes, and they must be totally useless at that distance.

Good catch! Also on the left hand side of the street, and the plate looks European. I think you've got it.

I like the truck/driver in focus and the rest blurred. Amazing what they did by hand before photoshop.

Definitely English

The registration number prefix "YX" is a pre 1930 issue from Central London

They moved the windshield forward of the gas tank filler, how did they fill the tank from inside the apple ????

The tires were goodyear "diamond treads"----much used in the thirties in snow country. A new 32 stewart fire pumper was purchased by a nny volunteer dept and it came with them also. And believe this: It still has them all on it yet!

I'd guess they relocated the fuel tank. Perhaps behind the cab. I can see something that ccould be a fill cal just above the running board by the guys leg.

Could be the angle of the picture but the top of the radiator looks more rounded.

Probably shot with a large-format plate camera, something similar to the "classic" 4x5 Speed Graphic used by newspaper photogs in the B&W movies...

A classic technique for throwing "undesireable" background out of focus is to use a large lens opening (f-stop), which gives a more shallow depth of field ( area in front of and behind the subject that will be in focus).

If you wanted to get everything in the frame in focus (way behind the subject), you would "stop-down" use the highest numerical f-stop possible.

I think the precip also helped to "soften" the objects in the background.

Yes - great things were achieved before photo-shop.

I thought so too but look at the shoe on the curb. The shoe clear the curb not. Very clever back then.
