This is fun!
Here's a rough but possibly good 59 Block flathead I picked up recently. I built a stand so I could see if the thing might start. Here it run here.

Very nice. Just goes to show how hardy these engines are.

Re: This is fun!
Well Henry your video was a bit more exciting than mine.....well done! Of course I wasn't video taping when I caught the carb on fire and had to smother it with a rag! I like the way you had the whole gang involved, it was an educational experience I'm sure!

Re: This is fun!
I'm going to be doing something like that someday soon. Fingers crossed it works out as well as yours did. Might not want the fire in the carb, but hey, more excitement for the little lady pushing the starter button.

Re: This is fun!
Fred, I'm with you! In the 1950's I helped my dad put a junk yard flathead in our farm delivery. On the start up, the engine backfired and the carb caught on fire....very exciting until we got the timing right. (I was the guy in the engine compartment!!!) Funny how some things stick with you forever!!!

Re: This is fun!
No doubt Dick, thanks for posting! I was working (looking) under the hood of a car with my dad once, (engine running) when he inadvertently laid an end wrench across the battery posts. BOOM!! Needless to say I needed a new battery and lesson learned. No other harm done fortunately.

Re: This is fun!
Fred, at the tender age of 71, I still have eyebrows and eye sight. But, I'd have to say the hair I have left is about .060 and my hair cuts take about 3.5 minutes and are more about reminiscing....wonder could there be some connection here??? Shop safety is not over-rated!!!!
