Only $1000.00 for a generator
There is a power house generator on eBay. It is only $1000.00 dollars and a mere $106.00 dollars to ship to your front door!!!

"I am selling it as un-restoredand cannot guarantee it works. "

Re: Only $1000.00 for a generator
I just put one of T.W"s EVR in my Generator. Mine is not restored and looks better than that one does on the inside.

The pulley's no good, either. But, it is coming all the way from New Zealand, so there might be a kiwi stowaway included. And, for only $10 more, you can be the new owner of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The wife said "start selling off some of that junk you have in the garage". The husband said "I'll put the stuff on EBAY right away dear". Nuff said.

Re: Only $1000.00 for a generator
On the plus side, the inside looks just perfect. I like to see them like that, where no one has messed it up with spliced wires, broken brush holder, missing insulation, etc. Even the brushes are full length and should outlive most of us.
If I had it, I would sandblast the outside, clean and repack the bearings, and give it a decent paint job. That would mean filling the pits if need be. |

Re: Only $1000.00 for a generator
I recognize the seller and a good many of you likely know of him too. I am guessing there is an extra zero and it's supposed to be 100 opening bid, not 1000. Plus given the weight boxed, coming from New Z and eBay calculations to US the 106 shipping is high yes, but understandable.

Re: Only $1000.00 for a generator
A bit of sympathy, please.
Poor gentleman just forgot to add that a complete Model A engine comes with this generator. |

Re: Only $1000.00 for a generator
I have several Power House Gens plus a 28 starter with the bendix that I would consider letting go for less than that.

I saw the rub marks on the mounting bracket and screws, but that is usually due to a slight bend in the pulley, or someone not assembling the bearings and shaft correctly. The rear of the bearing pocket has a metal cap that is factory crimped in place and no attempt should be made to remove it. Under the cap is a cork seal, and if the cork is missing, the shaft can move rearward enough for the pulley to scrape on the mount. If the steel pulley is bent, it can easily be made straight. I made a tapered shaft to spin the pulley in my lathe to check how true it runs. I also made a tool to remove the serrated bearing retainer on the front. I hate to see chisel marks from people using a hammer and chisel to remove it. I wish Ford had kept the 5 brush powerhouse for all 4 years of Model A production. Here's a link to one of several powerhouse threads that can help you work on your own restoration of them. See #11 reply for some tools I made to use on the powerhouse. The serrated nut remover is just an aluminum handle with 1/2" wide thin steel banding strap, and a piece of flat steel with a pointed edge to grip the serrations. A piece of banding strap and a Vice-Grip might even be enough to remove the serrated nut. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...se+picture+tom Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 02-20-2017 at 06:51 AM. |
