Oil Pump Spring
I need to replace the weak spring on my oil pump. I have several valve springs from various engines that are slightly stiffer than the standard oil pump spring available from the various vendors.
What are your pros and cons of using one of these stiffer springs cut to the same length as the stndard oil pump spring? Bill Lee/Virginia Peninsula |

Re: Oil Pump Spring
Be sure you don't have a spring end that will somehow wear on the pan.

Re: Oil Pump Spring
I would be reluctant to use any engine part from a non Ford or non A engine. Especially since good repro springs are available cheap. While an A engine is tolerant of all sorts of shade tree fixes and creative engineering, its actually a sophisticated piece of engineering from the era it was designed. It will perform best when kept to the original engineers' intent.
